Preamble

This website, at www.anglo-dutch.org.uk is intended to inform people in the UK about ‘Events with a Touch of Dutch’ taking place in the UK, or occasionally in the Netherlands or the Flemish-speaking part of Belgium. The content is sourced from material submitted to the Hon. Editor of the Quarterly Anglo-Netherlands Society* Newsletter, which is distributed to Members as part of their membership the Anglo-Netherlands Society in London, UK.  * The Anglo-Netherlands Society is a Company Limited by Guarantee, registered in England, number 4322131. The registered office is c/o Unilever PLC, at 100 Victoria Embankment, London EC4Y 0DY.

The website is aimed at UK residents, and the Hon. Web-editor (the person who from time to time updates the site content) intends to take reasonable care to comply with UK law.

Perhaps most important : the person who registered this domain is a non-trading individual who registered this domain so it would be available, on the off-chance that the Society of which he is a member -or another organisation which aims to promote Anglo-Dutch relations- would at some point wish to start a website. The content is drawn from that Society’s Quarterly Newsletter, with of course the Hon. Editor’s permission, submitted by readers, gathered during visits, when talking with members etc.

As a non-trading individual, the registrant wouldn’t seem to need to publish a Privacy Policy, but regulations tend to have their scope extended over time, both by law and through interpretation by the Courts, the text below is added to clarify what isn’t done.

Having read among others the ICO’s webpage on Legitimate Interest** as published at the time of writing (in May 2018), the limited information gathered is used in a way people would reasonably expect. ** https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/lawful-basis-for-processing/legitimate-interests/

Visitors would reasonable expect to view the requested page correctly formatted for their device, the Hon. Wed-editor can not be expected to read, evaluate and discard many thousands of bulk or junk messages per year, while preventing unauthorised alterations to the website contents will thwart for example hate speech and illegitimate trade following a hijacking of the allocated share of the webserver.

Which personal data is collected and why :

The site does not set out to collect Visitors’ data (a Visitor is any person or organisation visiting the site after typing in the web address of following a link from a search engine or other source, Visitors are not able to register as a User) except such data which the CMS (Content Management System) and the Webserver need to serve requested page(s).

It should be noted that the skills required to add to and update the website content are very much alike to those needed to write an email with formatted text and the occasional picture in a web-based service such as Gmail, Hotmail or similar.

Visitors who use the “Leave a Reply” option on selected pages to suggest an alteration are asked to enter a name and email address, so that the Web-editor can contact the poster, either to ask for clarification or to send a note of thanks. That information, together with the visitor’s ip-address, is stored with the message for an indefinite time, or until deleted.

Also, the CMS and the webserver will collect your ip-address which they may use to thwart junk messages. And if you try to log in to the administrative module your ip-address will be used by both the CMS and the webserver to exclude you from repeating attempts to access without proper authorisation.

The information regarding for example which browser you use and the screen or window resolution allows to format the page in a way that will make the information fit on the screen or in the browser window, thus avoid needless scrolling to view all that is presented.

Does one need to state that if you follow a link from be it a search engine or any other site, the fact that you followed that link will be known to the other site? You’ve now been told!

Comments

Comments entered by way of the ‘Leave a Reply’ box should only pertain to what ought to be amended on the website. Comments are held for moderation, which means they are not shown to visitors until they have been read by a human being. In addition there is a CMS module which aims to identify obvious bulk or junk postings. When visitors leave comments on the site the CMS collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address, the ‘browser user agent string’, and the address from which the visitor arrived at this site, to help detect bulk or junk posts.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar*** service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

*** Gravatar stands for Globally Recognized Avatars, if you have signed up for this, a small image of your choice appears beside the name when you do things like comment or post on a blog, if you have not signed up the service will show some graphic.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on this site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

The following would only apply to registered Users – as distinct from casual Visitors, who can not register as a User – a Visitor being anyone who either types the address in their browser of follows a link from a search engine or other source :

If you were to have an account and log in to this site, the CMS will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, the CMS will also set up several cookies to save your log-in information and your screen display choices. Users’ log-in cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your log-in will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the log-in cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

This site does not include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). There are however links to various external websites, each of which will have its own Privacy Policy.

Analytics

Neither the Society nor the Web-editor collects analytics data as provided by the likes of Facebook, Google Analytics and similar organisations. However, the CMS and the webserver do collect anonymous data which can be viewed in aggregated form, for example how many views each page received or which browser is most popular.

In this respect, if an ip-address appears in a listing, that is not held to be personally identifyable, except to law enforcement personnel : ip-addresses are in short supply, thus allocated dynamically by your chosen ISP whenever you access the internet, and the information on who used which ip-address at a particular time is not available except on a need-to-know basis.

Whom your data is shared with

Neither the Society nor the Web-editor share any personal data with anyone, although there is an automatic sharing with the Webhosting and CMS companies as set out elsewhere on this page.

How long your data will be retained

If a Visitor leaves a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so that any follow-up comments can be recognised automatically.

User data : Visitors can not register as Users on this website.

What rights you have over your data

If you have a User account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data currently held, including any data you have provided.

You can also request that any personal data held about you be erased. Please use the ‘Leave a Reply’ box at the bottom of selected pages for this. Erasure does not include any data required to be kept for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

The website is hosted via a web hosting company in Manchester, UK, and served from multiple datacenters in the London Area. The web hosting company’s Privacy Policy is at : https://www.inventivehosting.co.uk/privacy%20policy.htm

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated bulk or junk detection service, and similarly log-in attempts are collected and compared to other attempts to log in to accounts on the same CMS. The privacy policy of the company providing the CMS, the bulk or junk-, and the log-in detection service is at : https://automattic.com/privacy/ .

Previous version, dating from early May 2018 :

Preamble

The intended audience for this website are UK residents with an interest in events with ‘a Touch of Dutch’ in the UK. The website is hosted in the United Kingdom, and the web-editor intends -for GDPR and other legal requirements- that the content conforms to the law as passed by Parliament and clarified by the Courts in the UK.

It is also assumed that UK visitors are aware of their rights and obligations under UK law, thus the Cookie and the Privacy Policy on this page will set out the specifics for this site.

Visitors from overseas are likely to find that, as time progresses, and especially after ‘Brexit’ – the separation Britain form the European Union – laws and their clarification will diverge. That’s unfortunate, but with some 200 countries in the world it would be quite a task to conform with legal requirements in all jurisdictions where the content may be viewed – especially as the content is maintained in a person’s spare time, intended to serve as a signpost to where-ever more information can be found.

Cookies Policy

This website doesn’t set cookies or similar, and doesn’t offer social media buttons or other visitor tracking stuff. That of the cookies was tested on Saturday 12 May 2018, when Firefox v60.0.0 with all privacy-minders disabled didn’t show any cookies.

The Hosting Platform, the Content Management System, or any of the Add-ons and Plug-ins installed for specific functions such as preventing junk posts may at a later time resort to using cookies as necessary for their functioning.

Privacy Policy

This website doesn’t collect personal information. However, the software used for hosting the site needs to know like the browser used and where to send the pages; both the web Hosting Platform and the Content Management System are likely to use such automatically exchanged information to ensure correct operation and thwart attempts to gain unauthorised access.

Having stated that, if you ‘Leavy a Reply’ and enter your real name and actual email address, that information will be available for the web-editor to contact you to ask for clarification, or send a note of thanks.

In the instance when a visitor asked to publish a particular message, should they at some later moment rue their submission, then obviously use the “Leave a Reply” option once more, this time to ask to remove the post. The post will then be made invisible to visitors ‘as soon as possible’, but certain information will be kept, for example to answer questions from law enforcement officers or from parties who feel injured by that submission.

Comments and feedback regarding this site

This site is maintained “if and when”, in spare time; should you feel anything is missing then please use the “Leave a Reply” form at the bottom of selected pages to let the Web-editor (that’s the person who edits these pages) know of anything that ought to be included, amended or omitted; submissions will be moderated, which means your feedback and comments will not be published until they have been seen by the web-editor and may then be published at the web-editor’s discretion – please indicate if you’d definitely prefer your submission to be withheld.
