30 April, the actual birthday of Princess Juliana, was retained as national festive day on the accession of Princes Beatrix to the throne. Koning Willem-Alexander’s birthday being close to 30 April, the date was moved (Princes Beatrix was born 31 January, which -in the coldest part of winter- isn’t all that conducive to open air parties, it was felt).
